If police received reports someone was violent or dangerous, they had the legal authority and obligation to arrest them and hold them in custody until a psychologist could analyze them to determine if they were a risk. About a year ago in response to the acts of mass violence increasingly occurring, the federal government had loosened the protections against unwillingly institutionalizing people. She was only five years into her career, having graduated college and gotten a job at the local paper and overall despite the obvious negatives she did enjoy her career.
